FAQ

  • We are accepting meal package requests for the week of RAGBRAI 2025.

We offer a meal package that includes dinners for 7 nights (Saturday-Friday) prepared by Chef Lauren Montelbano. The cost for the week is $200.

Dinner must be picked up at our campsite between 6:30-7:30pm (We'll email the week before to let you know where our campsite locations each night). You're welcome to take the food to go or join us for dinner and some friendly conversation. However, keep in mind that you may need to make yourself comfortable on the grass unless you bring your own chair.

To keep things streamlined for our chef, we are only offering a package of 7 meals, there is no option to purchase less meals. All meals are vegan. If you have any other dietary requirements, please let Chef Lauren know in advance.

To purchase meals for the week, fill out this form and Chef Lauren will reach out for payment.

  • You don’t need to live a full-on vegan or plant-based lifestyle to join Powered by Plants. We’re happy to have anyone on our team that is interested in eating a plant-based or vegan diet the week of RAGBRAI.

If you're interested in learning more about Chef Lauren's background or how to prepare for nutrition on RAGBRAI, check out this blog post that she wrote.

  • Our team allows 2 bags per person. There are multiple ways to do it, but we recommend one bag with camp gear and another with clothes and toiletries; or put everything all in one. Check out this blog post with a suggested packing list.

  • Once our team is finalized, we will discuss the most efficient way to get everyone to the start. In 2023, we had over 20 team members that departed from Madison, WI so we rented a bus to drive us across to the start and then they picked us up at the end and drove us back to Madison. This would be an additional cost, but those details wouldn’t be determined until the team is finalized.

For team members that aren’t departing from Madison, there are multiple ways to get across Iowa to the start, depending on where you are coming from: RAGBRAI offers shuttle services from the closest major airport to the initial town, and there are charter services (for an expense) which can also transport you. They have a list on their website. Please reach out and we’ll be able to figure out what might be best for you.

  • Each person can leave as they wish; a light breakfast/coffee/tea will be available from 7-8am; bags should be ready to load onto the truck by 8am; the truck departs by 9am.

However, keep in mind that the chef and her team are willing to work with how team members are feeling. In 2023, the temperatures were to extreme that most people were up between 4-5am and on the road before 6am. Breakfast and coffee were available much earlier than planned.

  • If you are emotionally or physically unable to bike, you’ll be able to tag along with our support crew (as long as there is room). Otherwise, because you’ll be registered with RAGBRAI, taking the SAG from the closest town or on the road is an option that’s included with your registration.

RAGBRAI recommends biking to the first town and finding the SAG there if needed. If you are on the road unable to continue, you place your bike upside down and wait for the SAG to drive by to scoop you up. SAG typically drops people off at the main campground in the host town.

  • Shower trucks range in price from $8-$12 depending on which one is near camp. We might be near a school instead of a shower truck, but they will also charge you to shower. It's a good idea to bring a quick-dry towel since the shower service might charge you around $2 extra for a towel.
